War in Ukraine – Insurance solutions during conflict
Nordic Broker – A specialist insurance partner for Ukraine
Securing insurance in Ukraine today is not straightforward as the insurance environment is highly restricted due to ongoing hostilities.
Capacity is limited, conditions change frequently, and each risk requires careful structuring.
Nordic Broker supports clients with:
- War risk insurance for property, assets, and operations
- Business insurance adapted to conflict-zone limitations
- Travel and personnel insurance with medical, evacuation, and security support
With operational presence in Ukraine and access to international insurance markets, we are able to assess risks realistically and present them credibly to insurers.
Our approach is consultative: understanding your activity first, then building the most appropriate insurance solution available.
Frequently asked questions
Businesses, investments, construction projects, transportation and employees in Ukraine can be insured. Normal corporate insurance and specific war-risk insurance are separate areas of cover and can be combined according to the company’s needs.
Can you insure a business operating in Ukraine?
Yes. Companies operating in Ukraine can obtain insurance for their business, property, operations and employees.
Most standard insurance classes are available either locally in Ukraine or through international insurance markets. The best solution is often a combination of local and international insurance.
Can you get travel and health insurance for employees travelling to or working in Ukraine?
Yes. We have insured employees from more than 150 companies and organisations travelling to or stationed in Ukraine.
Coverage can include travel, medical and health insurance, accident insurance and other employee benefits.
What normal business insurance is available in Ukraine?
Normal business risks can be insured in Ukraine. Depending on the company’s operations, this can include property, business interruption, liability, cargo and transportation, vehicles, construction risks and other corporate insurance.
These are separate from specific war-risk covers.
We are building a factory or other facility in Ukraine. Can you insure the construction period?
Yes. Construction projects can be insured during the construction period.
We have experience insuring newly built cement factories, food-processing plants, warehouses, hotels and other construction projects of different sizes.
Can you insure cargo transported to and from Ukraine?
Yes. Cargo and transportation risks can be insured, including road, rail and marine transportation, depending on the route, goods and individual risk.
Can liability risks in Ukraine be insured?
Yes. Liability insurance can be arranged for companies operating in Ukraine.
In many cases, liability insurance is best structured through the company’s international insurance programme or from the country where the parent company is based.
Can you get war risk insurance for Ukraine?
War risk is a separate issue from normal business insurance.
Specific war-risk insurance can be arranged for both property and people. For example, it may be possible to insure property against physical damage caused by missiles, drones and other acts of war.
For people travelling to or working in Ukraine, specific war and terrorism coverage can also be arranged.
Availability, limits and pricing depend on the location, type of operation, values involved and current security situation.
Does insurance for Ukraine have to be bought from a Ukrainian insurer?
No.
Some insurance should or must be placed locally, while other risks can be insured internationally. In many cases, it makes sense to place parts of the programme in the company’s home country or where its parent company is based.
This can provide the company with an insurance programme securely structured within the EU or another established international insurance market, while Ukrainian risks requiring local coverage are insured locally.
How do we know what insurance our company needs in Ukraine?
We start with a review of the company’s existing insurance programme and its activities in Ukraine.
We then identify which risks are already covered, where there are gaps, which insurance should be arranged locally in Ukraine and which risks are better covered internationally.
Operating, investing, building, transporting goods or sending employees to Ukraine does not mean that your business has to operate uninsured.
